Alaska Bucket List: Ultimate List Of What To Do In Alaska

Table of Contents

I have to say, I used to think that there wasn’t anything to do in Alaska. I pictured it in my mind as a barren wasteland of snow and not much else. I am here to tell you now that I was completely wrong! Alaska is one of the most beautiful and most pristine places that I have ever seen. Not only that, but there are a number of places that I recommend to anyone who is considering taking a trip to the 49th state.

Preparing for the Trip

I had to get everything together that I would need for the trip. Everything from layers and layers of clothes to my ameda breast pump needed to go with me. I understood that I would be somewhat isolated up there, and I wanted to be sure that I didn’t leave anything behind that would help me get through the journey.

As I continued to throw items in my suitcase, I started to think about how I could get the most out of my journey. It became obvious to me that I would be best served by making a list and checking out some of the best parts of the state. What I ended up experiencing was beyond my wildest dreams. I want to share with you some of the can’t miss places in Alaska.

The Northern Lights

Okay, you know that Alaska is going to have a lot to do with nature when you go there. That much is a given, but you will be blown away by the Northern Lights if you get the chance to check them out. I can say this confidently because they were literally one of my favorite parts of the whole experience. They dazzled me and took me aback as I tried to understand the magnitude of what I was looking at.

A few of the best spots to view these lights are areas where the light pollution is not as dense. Thus, I wanted to include the following spots on the list of places to view the Northern Lights: Cleary Summit, Chena Lake Recreation Area, Creamer’s Field Migratory Waterfowl Refuge, and the Chena State Recreational Area.

There are other areas that I was able to see them from as well, but these spots provided me with the best possible view of this natural wonder.

Road Trip From Anchorage to Seward

I found that one of the most exciting parts of my trip and one of the best ways to see the full beauty of the state of Alaska was to take a road trip from Anchorage to Seward. There was so much majestic beauty between the two locations, and the truly best way to observe all of that was to take it in via a planned road trip between the two locations.

I enjoyed the 125 mile journey between the two cities. It gave me time to think about life, to observe the natural beauty all around me, and to be truly thankful for everything that was made possible by having gone on this trip. I understand that someone could look at this and be confused by how a 125 mile journey into the wilderness could be fun, but I highly encourage those people to give it a try. They are likely to find that it is actually far better than they might have ever have imagined.

Bear Glacier Kayaking

I am certainly the type of person who is up for an adventure, and this means I was all about taking on Bear Glacier Kayaking. In fact, I couldn’t wait to get started with something like this. It seemed like the adventure of a lifetime to me, and I didn’t want to miss out on the chance to explore what this could be like.

I had to take a 20 minute helicopter ride from Seward to Harding Ice Field to get the chance to go on this adventure, but even that felt like part of the journey as well. Once I was there, I was informed that this is a great spot for both beginners and those with more advanced skills. Now, personally, I am still a beginner, but I didn’t have any trouble working my way through the kayaking adventure to get to where I needed to go.

The waters were very calm, and I added a journey to my checklist that I never would have had the chance to enjoy if I hadn’t traveled to Alaska. This was truly one of the best parts of taking my trip to this area. Those who are on the fence about going to Alaska or seeing everything that it has to offer need to look no further than the Bear Glacier Kayaking opportunity in my opinion.

I highly recommend that anyone on the fence about going to Alaska considers this opportunity as something that can make all of the difference for them. I had the time of my life, and I would do it all again as soon as possible. It was the adventure of my lifetime.
